The existence of three branches of government establishes a system of checks and balances, ensuring that no branch can misuse its powers. But what happens when one branch refuses to do its job? I think we are getting a good look at what happens. In the past year and two months the GOP-controlled House and Senate have allowed POTUS 47 to do exactly what he wanted to do and have not even attempted to rein him in.
Some examples:
1. Started a tariff war with every country in the world.
2. Destroyed the east wing of the White House with the intention of building a $400 million ballroom. Keep in mind he is no more than a four-year tenant of the White House. He does not own it.
3. Bombed Iran and, as he put it, “totally obliterated their nuclear capabilities,” without even discussing the attack with Congress.
4. Approved blowing up 20 plus boats and killing all occupants of the boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific because they allegedly were carrying drugs headed for the U.S. or neighboring countries/territories. Keep in mind, as a country, we can’t even agree that capital punishment is acceptable.
5. Sent special ops into Venezuela to capture the leader of that nation and, again, no discussion with Congress.
6. Accepted a $400 million jet as a gift from a Middle East country with no questions asked by Congress. And it is estimated to cost $900 million to retrofit it with all the necessary safety equipment.
7. Added his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the building that was dedicated as a living memorial to John F. Kennedy. This he did after naming himself as the chairman of the board and adding 14 new members to the board.
8. Started a war with Iran, which is supposed to be approved by Congress prior to starting. POTUS 47 calls it a war, but all his disciples call it a “military operation” or “conflict” so it doesn’t look like he again did something he wasn’t supposed to.
9. Claims that Cuba will be next because “ I can do anything I want with Cuba.” This hasn’t happened yet, but I don’t hear anybody telling him he can’t.
But the House GOP did do something just (last) week. They fabricated the “America First” award to be given to POTUS 47, a golden eagle statue much like the FIFA Peace award that was fabricated for him several months ago.
