I have attempted to be civil, but civility apparently eludes Danial Gray, who clearly is a legend in his own mind. In a Trumpian display of bravado, he utterly misconstrues my position and represents it in the form of a strawman argument he is more comfortable defending.
His position defies reason. He attempts to portray me as defending illegal immigration, which I did not. I pointed to the 14th Amendment guarantee of equal protection, and due process of law. To be clear, I in no way defend those who employ illegal immigrants and have often made the case in the past that pursuing illegal employers would be a more effective means of controlling illegal immigration.
He then attempts to defend the utterly illegal deportation of an immigrant, simply because they were one of 600. I suppose this is a sound defense of administrative incompetence, in addition to standing up for an unconstitutional lack of due process. So far, Mr. Gray seems to be no fan of the U.S. Constitution.
He then goes on to cite the stock market, I guess he hasn’t checked the current market status. While he claims that markets recovered during the former administration, having cratered under Trump’s first administration.
There is no such guarantee that there will be a similar rebound, and any rational person can see that the current administration’s policies pose a grave barrier to such a position.
Frankly, if Mr. Gray held the ability to cause me monetary damages, I would sue him for defamation. But the reality is that he is a sycophantic fool. I honestly wonder why the paper runs his letters, which exposes them to the same defamatory liability.
A public space to discuss ideas is important. Mr. Gray presents no ideas, and doesn’t respond directly to those that have been presented.
Does Mr. Gray think that the current course of the administration is wise, effective, or fiscally responsible? Does he think deportation absent judicial process is a good thing?
Does he think that a person who has been illegally deported shouldn’t be repatriated? If he does, then he is more of a fool than I thought, and that is saying something.
