When you see something wrong, you must say something.

Where is Congress in combating Trump’s ill-advised decrees? The Republican leadership in Congress has given away their charge to override the executive branch when it goes beyond its authority. Many in Congress are fearful of Trump’s vengeance or the threat of money against them if they run again; some are even fearful for the safety of their families from rabid MAGA supporters. No matter what, Republicans have the majority and yet refuse to confront Trump’s insane decrees.

Trump’s “beautiful tariffs” are ruining the U.S. economy. Congress has the power to repeal tariffs, yet they do nothing. Steve Liesman of CNBC has said of the tariff wars, “Insanity is not a strategy.” Threatening our neighbor Canada with increased tariffs if they do not consider becoming a U.S. state is insanity.

When speaking to the Department of Justice recently, Trump implied that it is his DOJ to deliver his retribution. Jim Jordan’s statement, “We don’t care (about laws),” reflects Trump’s administration. When a federal judge said Trump must return accused Venezuelan gang members being deported to El Salvador because he did not follow immigration laws by allowing due process, Trump’s lawyers countered by saying the federal judge had no jurisdiction.

Trump and his many minions including especially Elon Musk in Trump’s slashing of government departments have broken laws; it is the judicial system which so far has reigned in the cuts. If the balance is lost among the three branches of government, there is a constitutional crisis and a threat to democracy.

The following are only some of the many other instances of Trump’s chaotic leadership:

  • destroying effectiveness of government entities by summarily slashing employees.
  • not releasing funds already promised by Congress.
  • blackmailing states by threatening to withhold funding.
  • threatening media when they say negative things about him or what he is doing.
  • trying to destroy the Department of Education when polls show over 80% of the public are against this.
  • allowing an unelected billionaire to illegally fire federal workers without any due cause.
  • appointing person to leadership position who are totally not qualified; the only qualification is allegiance to Trump or giving millions to his coiffures[coffers]. (I can believe coiffures, but I believe the paper has a misprint here)
  • threatening to take lands from sovereign countries — Greenland, Gaza, and Panama — is insanity.
  • threatening Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid so that the very rich and corporation do not have to pay their fair share.
