“A government of laws not men.” Sean O’Donnell’s use of John Adam’s quotation on this page
could not be more apropos to these times as the current administration (elected by a minority
of voters) is abandoning the rule of law and its guardrails of policy and protocol.
The men? An unelected billionaire with glaring conflicts of interest and Christo-Nationalist
crusaders intent on implementing Project 2025. How many laws have been ignored or broken
by DOGE and executive orders? The number of lawsuits now stands at over 80 against the
current administration in office less than two months. According to New York University’s
Institute for Policy Studies, Trump has a 93% losing record in court. Disregarding the
Constitution and established laws is a tactic of disruption and obstruction that causes
irreparable harm to people and the agencies targeted.
Unelected, Musk’s money purchases power. Trump, famously ill-informed about the basic
functions of government, has become a chump for Musk, his billionaire cohorts, and Christian
Nationalists. This administration has fast-tracked Project 2025, a project Trump asserted on
‘Truth’ Social that he knew nothing about.
Nope. He knew well those who developed Project 2025 because he has associated for years
with many of them and others served with him in his first administration. He has appointed its
authors to key positions in his administration: Russell Vought as director of the Office of
Management and Budget; Tom Homan, his former immigration chief, as “border czar;” and
immigration hardliner Stephen Miller as deputy chief of policy.
Under the guise of government efficiency, the current administration is gutting our government
of important services at home and abroad. Use Veteran services? Social Security? Medicaid?
Enjoy our National Parks? Care about our role in the world building goodwill and saving lives of
children and families? Not only has this unelected clique gutted USAID, but funding to charities
has been cut drastically.
I received this email today:
“The administration has terminated thousands of foreign assistance programs overnight. Many
of these programs provide critical, lifesaving aid to our sisters and brothers facing hunger,
religious persecution, conflict and other affronts to their human dignity.”
I will call my representatives and I will donate, but am no billionaire.
Law is essential. It must be respected with liberty and justice for all.
The law must not be subverted for the enrichment of a few and built on the suffering of many.
